Science

At Hutton Rudby Primary School we believe that all of our children are scientists! It is our intent that every child has access to a broad and balanced curriculum which provokes the inner curiosity amongst all. It is fundamental that our children develop the scientific knowledge and understanding of the world around us. Through the teaching of science, the children learn the scientific methods, disciplines and processes as well as making real life links to discoveries both past and present.

We aim to do this by:
• Providing a broad and balanced curriculum which enthuses all learners and gives them the necessary foundations to recognise the importance of science in everyday life.

• Enabling the development of scientific skills to promote enquiry and investigation. Children will be encouraged to make predictions, ask questions and carry out practical investigations in order to draw conclusions based on their findings and discoveries.

• Ensuring high-quality teaching combined with exciting lessons which stimulate interest. Our children will be encouraged to develop and use scientific vocabulary when querying or and explaining their working.

We use progression statements to guide our children through the curriculum, building on prior knowledge. The progression statements for Science can be found below.
