School Sport

Sport is huge here at Hutton Rudby Primary School, from dance to football, cricket to the hurdles we do it all! On this page, you will find a brief overview of our view to sport in school.

PE

Our PE sessions offer children a varied sporting curriculum. Taught by a mixture of teachers and specialist visitors, the children get an enriching, fun and educational sporting experience, helping with their holistic development not only as athletes, but as good sportspeople. We not only teach the children how to win, but also the importance of being a good loser. Outside specialists who come in to offer coaching to all of our children at different points in the school year include:

Lynne Drury – Lynne offers a range of PE lessons including rounders, netball and cricket.

Dan Fowler Coaching – DF Coaching send experienced football coaches to school (usually the fantastic Tom), who coaches children from reception to Year 6.

Cycling Proficiency – Year 6 have the option to take part in this towards the end of the year.

Swimming – Year 3 and 4 children have regular swimming lessons in one term at Stokesley Leisure Centre.

Yoga – Key Stage 1 have weekly yoga sessions throughout most of the year. Leading up to SATs, the Year 6 children take over and get the chance to relax at a tricky time of year.

Extra Curricular

We offer a wide range of extra curricular sports including:

Football club with Mr. Johnson (the football team recently reached the northern finals, where they were one match away from a place at Wembley!) This is open to Years 5 and 6.

Running Club – DF Coaching send an experienced running coach to train interested children.

Dance club – Experienced dance teachers come in two nights a week, once for Lower Key Stage 2 (Y3 & 4) and once for Upper Key Stage 2 (Y5 & 6).

Gymnastics Club – Lynne Drury is a gymnastics specialist and has taken our gym team to countless regional finals. We have produced some of North Yorkshire’s finest gymnasts through her expert tuition. She runs two sessions, one for Key Stage 1, and another for Key Stage 2.

Netball Club – Lynne again. And again we have produced netball teams that regularly make the Youth Games. This club takes place on a Wednesday after school and is open to Year 5 and 6 (at different times in the evening). We regularly have former pupils help out, demonstrating the enjoyment they get from this club!

Multi-Skills – Specialist coaches come in to school to help children with many sporting skills, throwing, catching, dribbling etc. This happens early in the school year.

Other clubs are often available throughout the year – check our newsletter regularly for more details.

School Games

As a school, we are also part of the School Games (to visit their website, click here) where we are part of a cluster in which the children get to experience all sorts of sporting events both competitive and non-competitive.

Sports Week

Each year we put on a sports week. In previous years the children have had the opportunity to try laser shooting, wheelchair basketball, rock climbing, underground caving, dance, cheer-leading, inflatable assault courses, inflatable volleyball and many other interesting sports. This week gives the children the chance to experience sports that they have not been exposed to before and interact with many different sporting experts. This week has proven to be a favourite amongst children and teachers alike.
