Our Curriculum

Music

2CB02558At The Synergy Schools Federation, our music curriculum intends to inspire creativity, self-expression and encourages our children on their musical journeys.

We hope to foster a lifelong love of music by exposing them to diverse musical experiences which ignite a passion for music. By listening and responding to different musical styles, finding their voices as singers and performers (using both rhythmic and melodic instruments) and as composers, we will enable them to become reflective musicians as well as help them gain in confidence and self-esteem. Our ambitious curriculum also involves the learning of a musical instrument throughout the whole of Key Stage 2 (the ocarina) which provides an excellent foundation for pupils' secondary music education.

The aims of our music curriculum marry that of the Department for Education’s Model Music Curriculum (March 2021). In total, pupils will receive 1 hour of musical teaching per week, spread across the whole academic year. This tuition will take the form of the following activities:

  • In Key Stage 1, 3 highly focused and taught units of work taken from the Charanga scheme of work which develop pupils’ understanding of the 7 elements of music (rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre, dynamics, texture and form) and their ability to listen, appraise, perform and compose.
  • In Key Stage 2, 2 highly focused and taught units of work taken from the Charanga scheme of work which develop pupils’ understanding of the 7 elements of music (rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre, dynamics, texture and form) and their ability to listen, appraise, perform and compose.

On top of the above, Musicworks offer keyboard and drumming lessons to our children on a weekly basis. This cumulates in a Musicworks assembly at the end of each term where the children can showcase their talents!
