Welcome to our Reception page!
Reception is an incredibly exciting year for the children as they begin their schooling adventure! Here, the children take part in creative, hands-on and exciting activities to develop their skills and build strong foundations for learning.
Throughout Reception, the children will experience many amazing learning opportunities through a creative and engaging curriculum. We are beginning our first half term exploring the importance of friendship as we are meeting lots of new people and making friends from all over our school!
Why do squirrels hide their nuts? Why do hedgehogs hibernate? Reception will be exploring these autumnal questions and many more during this project, whilst learning about seasonal changes in the natural world during autumn and winter in the next half of this term.
After pigging out over the festive season, the children will be exploring about life on the farm and who might live there. Don’t be sheepish, I’ll give ewe a clue…
Is it a bird? Is it a plane?! Or is it just Mr. Kelly’s terrible singing? ‘What’s that sound?’ Is our next topic! During this, the children will be investigating all the different sounds around our environment, exploring different instruments and listening carefully to how loud or quiet something is…if there’s one thing Reception are good at, it’s making a lot of noise!
Was the Big Bad Wolf really so bad? How did Goldilocks manage to eat all that porridge?! We will be exploring these questions and many more in our magical project ‘Will you read me a story?’ all about fairy tales, goodies and baddies!
As part of our final topic of the year, Reception will be focussing on seasonal changes again. As we enter the warmer months, we will be looking at ‘What can you see in summer?’. We will be looking at sun safety, environmental changes and Mrs. Trevis’ favourite things, holidays and leisure!
In Reception, the children have numerous opportunities to display and grow their creativity through extra-curricular activities. Children will have rich experiences with music throughout Reception; including lessons with our onsite music maestro, Mr. Whawell, Harvest festival and our Christmas nativity!
