Year 3 Class Page

Welcome to the newest classroom in the school! In Year 3 you are going to learn some amazing things, you will become rainforest experts, go Greek and even learn about Fred and the rest of the Flintstones in our amazing Yabadabbado topic, all about the stone age! And you're going to do all of that with Mrs Trevis. This is the first year in Key Stage 2 and a real growing up year as you move up through the school!

What Autumn 2 in Year 3 will look like!

English - Year 3 will be exploring the Amazon Rainforest and in English will be creating a double page spread all about the biggest rainforest in the world. Following this, we will be researching our favourite tropical creatures and creating a fun-filled fact-file on these. We will also be looking into the more serious matter of deforestation and will be writing a persuasive letter about why we should help stop this from happening! In poetry, we will be using our senses and exploring what different sounds we would hear if we took a walk through a rainforest; snakes hissing, rain dipping, birds tweeting, jaguars stalking...

Maths - We have already kick-started this half-term with looking at multiplication and division facts for our 3s, 4s and 8s. We will continue to practise our multiplications, make estimations and answer worded problems on these topics!

Science - What is light? What is darkness? What is day? What is night? What are shadows and how do they form? These are just some of the questions we will be investigating in our topic of Light and shadow!

Geography - In Geography this half-term, the children will be exploring where rainforests are located on a world map and will be exploring why they grow so close to the equator. Additionally, they will identify the climates of certain rainforests and will be producing their own weather forecasts! We will discuss the different layers of the rainforest and will be learning all about who/what lives there.

Additional info - Y3 are thrilled to be performing in our Christmas play Peter Pan this year! We have already started our singing practise and will continue to work on this and our stage directions in upcoming weeks! We can't wait to see you at our show!

Autumn 1

In Autumn 1, Year 3 travelled back in time to prehistory and learned all about the Stone Age to Iron Age. We created setting and character descriptions, our very own cave and cave art and even enjoyed a fantastic historical trip Ryedale Folk Museum!
