Hutton Rudby Year 5 Finish Second in Debating Competition

Year 5 Come Second in Debating Competition!

Congratulations to the Year 5 debating team who pitted their wits against some of North Yorkshire’s most talented debaters and finished a fantastic second place. The children were debating whether or not social media is bad for children. One child argued for the motion and one against, whilst the rest of the team took other school’s to task on their speeches with well thought out and articulately posed questions. Coming second is a fantastic achievement for the children who wrote their speeches themselves, with minimal input from their teacher. The excitement didn’t end there, however, as Jamie (who argued that social media had a negative impact on children – despite having a vastly different personal opinion) won BEST BOY! Congratulations Jamie, and congratulations Sam, Poppy, Logan, Jenny and Guy who all did a fantastic job! The competition was judged by the current Mayor of Northallerton and two former mayors.
