Charity Work
At Hutton Rudby Primary School we realise how fortunate we are to be healthy, happy, clothed and fed. We also know that not everybody is so fortunate. Over the course of the school we have supported a number of brilliant causes, ranging from Children In Need and Street Children of Iringa to donating to local food banks.
Over the last year, we have supported Save The Children, particularly focussing on their work in Ukraine. Like many, we want to help in any way that we can. As such, we undertook a mammoth charity walk – The Yorkshire 3 Peaks. This gruelling walk covers 24 miles and and 7000ft of elevation. We completed the challenge within 12 hours and raised several thousand pounds for Save The Children. This event was followed by a ‘Ukraine Day’ in school, which contributed hundreds to our final total.
Almost half of the people fleeing the fighting in Ukraine have been children. Save The Children are:
- Distributing kits of clothing and blankets,
- Providing cash and vouchers to help families meet basic needs such as food and medicine,
- Offering vital mental health support to children and their families,
- Providing safe access to inclusive, quality education where it is safe to do so,
- Providing basic non-food items and outreach services for refugees
They are also attempting to ensure full humanitarian access to families caught up in the crisis.

School also support local charity The Russ Devereux Headlight Project. This year, we helped the RDHP ‘Turn Blue Monday Bright’, wearing bright clothes and doing fun activities on the bluest day of the year (the third Monday in January).
The project aims to work with children delivering emotional resilience programmes in schools, as early intervention enables children to cope in later life with stressful situations or crisis. The project also offers one-to-one counselling and play therapy sessions.
In 2019, as part of our fundraising, a team of staff completed the National 3 Peaks Challenge in 23 hours 8 minutes after months of training. This challenge raised over £15,000 for the Headlight Project and is something that we are all incredibly proud to have been involved with.
There will be more fundraising events taking place in the coming years for this fantastic cause.
Following our 3 Peaks Challenge, we were honoured to be nominated for the award of Champion Fundraiser at the Evening Gazette’s annual Community Champions Awards night – and we won! More information can be found here.
